November - 4

Romans 8:26-27
November - 4
THANK YOU, HOLY SPIRIT
The Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will. Romans 8:27
A woman in our church how has been active in Christ’s mission expressed her deep sense of thanks to God for the gift of prayer. Her life has been exemplary—she is always alert to new people in church and makes them feel at home. She is a woman of confidence; at the same time, she speaks openly about her profound sense of her sin and her need of grace. She is very thankful for the “awesome avenue of prayer.”
None of us deserves to come before God in confidence. We are weak, frail, sinful, and often broken. Little in our lives suggests that we might be worthy of an audience with God. And yet God patiently listens to the mumbling of our unclean lips and becomes active in our prayers. God the Holy Spirit helps us by cleaning up what we say, sorting it out, and presenting it before the Father. He never throws up his hands in frustration over our failures. He never has “had enough” of our inability to make our lives conform to what he calls us to be.
God not only listens to us and hears us, but he also knows best how and when to answer our prayers. This does not mean he will always give us what we ask. If that were the case, he would be less than we’d expect him to be. Instead, as we pray, the Spirit intercedes, and the Father grants us what we need, based on his knowledge of the entire scope of our lives.
PRAYER
Thank you, O Holy Spirit, for seeing that our needs are brought before our heavenly Father. Thank you for straightening out our prayers. Please guide us in God’s will. Amen.
