UNPO VII Condemns Burma's Fascist Junta

   (S.H.A.N. & Burma's News Published by Burma's Chinese 貌强)

   UNPO VII ,The Hague, 27 June 2005 -

   The UNPO VII General Assembly concluded its three-day session, starting with the Opening Ceremony on Friday 24 June in The Great Hall of Justice in the Peace Palace, with participation of UNPO Member delegations from the 63 Nations, Peoples, Minorities, and Indigenous Peoples representing over 200 million oppressed peoples all over the world.

   The UNPO General Assembly pays homage to the voices of the victims of all forms of oppression, foreign occupation and alien domination, and other violations of International Law and Human Rights that is taking place in so many parts of the world, and all those who struggle against these injustices through non-violence, dialogue and civil struggle.

   UNPO condemns all states, corporations and others entities who perpetrate oppression and gross human rights violation against the Peoples who are fighting for freedom, democracy and justice and reiterates its commitment to reject and end the indiscriminate use of violence, including all forms of terrorism.

   UNPO remains strongly committed to the values of the right to life, freedom, justice, peace, non-violence and democracy, as enshrined in the UNPO Covenant.

   The General Assembly elected as Chairman Göran Hansson (Scania) and as Vice-Chairwoman Tsering Jampa (Tibet) and Mary Simat (Maasai).Marino Busdachin was unanimously elected as UNPO General Secretary.

   The Presidency of the General Assembly is composed of: Maxim Gunjia (Republic of Abkhazia), Lilla Balasz (Hungarian Minority in Romania), Muzaffer Arslan (Iraqi Turkmen), Thach Thach (Khmer Krom), Edita Tahiri (Kosova), Reynaldo Mariqueo (Mapuche), Ledum Mitee (Ogoni), Nfor Ngala Nfor (Southern Cameroons), May-Sing Yang (Taiwan), and Erkin Alptekin (Uyghurs).

   RESOLUTION ON THF INFFRINGEMENT OF THE SOVEREIGNTY AND MILITARY OCCUPATION/COLONIZATION OF THE CHIN, MON, AND SHAN BY THE BURMESE MILITARY REGIME

   · Having met at the VII UNPO General Assembly in the Hague, the Netherlands, 24-26 June 2005;

   · Recognizing the Chin, Mon, and Shan peoples' right to self-determination; as evidenced by the historic Panglong Agreement in 1947;

   · Taking into account that the abolition of the Panglong Agreement and the 1947 Union of Burma Constitution, which are the sole legal bonds that bind between the non-Bunnan ethnic nationalities and the Burman state, by thc military regime in 1962;

   · Concerned by the the detention of eleven Shan leadership, including Chairman of the Shan Nationalities League for Democracy, Hkun Htun Oo, veteran politician U Shwe Ohn and Major-Gen Hsoten, Chairman, Shan State Peace Council, in Febmary 2005;

   · Concerned by the military regime's ongoing military occupation and operation with the help of United Wa State Army on Shan State Army on the Shan-Thai border;

   · Having regard the breakdown of the ceasefire agreement, due to the military regime's implementation of forced surrender on the Shan State National Army in May 2005;

   · Concerned by the continued gross human rights violation since 1990, which have produced over 200,000 internally displaced and half a million refugees Shan in Thailand, according to conservation estimation;

   · Alarmed by the forced and illegal confiscations of farmlands in both the Shan and Mon States;

   · Horrified by the systematic implementation of rape as a weapon of war against the Shan and Mon women, and underage girls;

   

   The UNPO General Assembly,

   · Condemns the military regime for its gross human rights violations, including forced population transfer, ethnic and cutural genocide, recruiting of child soldiers, forced labours, use of rape as a weapon of war;

   · Demand the release of the Shan political leadership and all political prisoners;

   · Urges the military regime to immediately end its illegal occupation of the Chin, Mon, and Shan States, stop all human right violations, and start to negotiate a peaceful transfer of sovereign power to the concerned peoples;

   · Calls upon the United Nations, European Union, United States of America, China, India, Japan, ASEAN countries and all international stakeholders to help materialize the 1990 nationwide election result and pave the way for reconciliation, democratization, equality and rights of self-determination, as clearly expressed by the peoples of Burma;

   · Requests the Royal Thai Government to recognize the uprooted Shan population, who were fleeing the military oppression and war zones, as refugees.

   · Requests the General Secretary of the UNPO to help organize the reconciliation process and political settlement on behalf of the Chin, Karenni, Mon, and Shan peoples, with the help of international community and the United Nations.
